Situation The Westphalian meat product factory Stockmeyer GmbH in Sassenberg comprises several production processes. The different tasks, production and processing of sausage meat, filling, packaging, distribution, and logistics with modern production technology, on the one hand, and sophisticated infrastructure technology with steam generation, air conditioning systems, water treatment, compressed air, hygiene systems, laboratories etc. on the other, place a very heavy load on the electrical power supply system of the factory.
Problem The existing MV and LV factory network with its modern production and converter technology was nearing capacity limits. The local voltage quality was no longer sufficient for the high production quality and reliability required in this special hygenic environment or for the modern production machines that use converter technology and fast machine control.
Solution In the initial phase we analyzed the voltage quality at the machines. We then planned the entire factory power system including connection to the utility grid. By upgrading the connection system for the production machines and implementing a direct and secure connection of the process nodes to the medium voltage system, we secured the local voltage quality, developed new power reserves and achieved a high level of service security with an integrated protection concept and selective relay settings.
